Samantha Thornton, MA, LPC
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas with over 30 years’ experience in the mental health field. I am a native Houstonian who believes life can change us for the better, or for the worse. People can become stuck. While we have labels for this, the bottom-line is if we can get stuck, and we can become unstuck. I have worked with various age groups and issues and have a passion for helping those who have experienced trauma, question life’s purpose, who struggle with the label and stigma of mental health, and those who have not yet been successful in therapy.
The therapy approaches I tend to use the most include Existential/Humanistic Therapies, Motivational Interviewing, EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Action Based Recovery for both mental health and addictions. I have had success in working with those diagnosis with depression, anxiety, first responder issues, trafficking, trauma, addiction, psychosis (voices and visions), domestic violence, and relationship/marital conflict.
I completed my Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Maryland in 2012 with a major in Clinical Psychology. I received my Master of Arts Degree in Professional Counseling at Liberty University in 2019 and am currently a doctoral candidate.
