Samantha Thornton, MA, LPC

Samantha Thornton is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. She has over 30 years’ experience in the mental health field. She is a native Houstonian and believes life can change us for the better, or for the worse. People can become stuck. While we have labels for these things, the bottom-line is that we can get stuck, and we can become unstuck. She has worked with all age groups and diagnoses and has a passion for those who have experienced trauma, question life’s purpose, who struggle with the label and stigma of mental health and those who have not yet been successful in therapy.
The modalities that Samantha tends to use the most include Existential/Humanistic Therapies, Motivational Interviewing, EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Action Based Recovery for both mental health and addictions. Samantha works with children, adolescents, and adults. She helps those needing assistance with a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, first responder issues, trafficking, trauma, addiction, psychosis (voices and visions), domestic violence, and relationship/marital conflict.
Education
Samantha completed her Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Maryland in 2012 with a major in Clinical Psychology. She received her Master of Arts Degree in Professional Counseling at Liberty University in 2019 and is a currently a doctoral candidate. Samantha completed internships in a community mental health setting, nonprofit centers, West Oaks Hospital and in a family therapy private practice. In these settings, she provided counseling services to individuals, families, couples, and groups.
